Originally, advertising; since 1996, Digital Marketing. When I chose advertising as a career, it seemed like a good compromise between the poverty of the arts and the comfort of the business world.
It turns out that it was a great choice. Interesting, hard, ridiculous, stimulating, thought-provoking, pointless, empty. When you're on the inside, it inspires passion in the face of bureaucracy, inspiration in the presence of genius (relatively, ok?) and a huge relief in the knowledge that what we do is unlikely to hurt anybody.
But actually, advertising wasn't nearly as good a choice as digital marketing. In fact, it's becoming clear that advertising has become a whole different thing. That's what this blog will be about, in part.
